Notes for William Leon GOODING | ||||||||||
WILLIAM LEON GOODING: The eldest son of William Charles and Henrietta, was born on May 17th, 1882 at Yinnar, and was seven years old when his parents brought him to live at Tanjil South where he, too, attended the Tanjil South School. William Leon spent his youth at 'Myrtlevale' his family home until he married Jane Amanda MacLaren. She was born in 1889 at Willow Grove being the daughter of Peter and Fanny (Wilkinson) MacLaren. The newly wedded couple moved to a farm at Billy's Creek near Yinnar, where their six children were born and where William Leon lived for the remainder of his life. The children born to their marriage were-: William Hector, Alan Noel, Esme Violet, Dorothy Jean, Hazel Muriel, John Andrew. William Leon's interests were of a sporting nature. He enjoyed fishing and all active sport. He organised and held billiard tournaments and raised enough money to build the hall at Hazelwood estate. He died on March the 2nd, 1959, aged 78 years, and was interred in the Hazelwood cemetery. His wife, Jane Amanda died on December the 27th, 1969 aged 78 years and was cremated at Springvale. 1 |
